You're reading: Voters Committee: Election fraud may affect results

Most of the violations during the voting and tabulation in the Oct. 28 parliamentary elections in Ukraine will have no impact on the results of the elections on party lists, but may affect the results in some single-member constituencies, Chairman of the Voters Committee of Ukraine Oleksandr Chernenko has said.

“Most of these problems will not affect the election results in the
nationwide constituency. However, election abuses and their
concentration in certain districts both during the voting and the vote
count could affect the outcome of the elections in those districts, and
distort them. According to our estimate, from ten to fifteen
constituencies could be affected,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv
on Monday.

The elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine took place on Oct.
28. They were conducted under a mixed system, with 225 MPs elected on
party lists and 225 in single-seat constituencies (the elections in 2007
were held under a proportional system). Parliamentary candidates run in
single-seat constituencies either from parties or through
self-nomination. The election threshold for parties on party lists in
these elections is 5%.
