Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that both the law-enforcement agencies and protesters should observe the law during mass protest rallies.

“When we say we are building a democratic state, a democratic society
– and we are all citizens of one country – it is important that
participants in that society and processes that are taking place observe
the law. It makes no difference if these are authorities, law
enforcers, or participants in those rallies. All are bound by the laws
of our state,” Yanukovych said in a televised interview with Ukrainian
channels on Monday, according to the President’s official Web site.

The president says it was important that the actions be peaceful.

“Each expression of the will by the people, any rally confirms that
every person has not only the right but also the opportunity to express
their point of view. But it is very important that these rallies always
be peaceful,” Yanukovych said.

“I convinced that anyone, even a bad peace is better than the best war,” he added.
