You're reading: Yanukovych: No pressure should be placed on Ukrainians during parliamentary elections

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said that necessary conditions should be created to hold fair and democratic parliamentary elections in 2012.

“I am calling on you to give people a chance and create conditions for people to make their choice. We should not place pressure on people,” Yanukovych said at a meeting with officials in Sevastopol on Tuesday, according to the president’s press service.

The president stressed that the authorities should be open to people, so that Ukrainians could trust them.

Yanukovych said that the authorities should analyze the situation in the country and sum up the results of their work over the recent period.

“People should be informed about them [the results], they have to know the truth, they are waiting for it,” the president said.

The parliamentary elections in Ukraine will be held on October 28, 2012.
