Opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko is using "a purely political form of defense" in her current trial on charges of overstepping her powers in talks with the Russian government on natural gas deals when she was prime minister, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said.
"She uses a purely political form of defense," Yanukovych said in an interview with Ukrainian television that was recorded on Friday and aired on Tuesday. "That is her defense strategy. But where is the legal aspect?"
"It is in my interest as in no one else’s that [the trial] should be transparent and open," Yanukovych said.
