Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a decree on Ukraine's Annual National Cooperation Program with NATO, which will replace the 2009 decree on the annual national program of Ukraine's preparations for gaining NATO membership.

The presidential press service reported that the head of state signed the document No. 328/2013 on Wednesday.

“The amendments are aimed at streamlining the terminology with the non-aligned policy enshrined in the legislation, as well as at the improvement of the mechanisms and terms for the development, approval and implementation of Ukraine-NATO annual national cooperation programs,” reads the statement.

The Annual National Cooperation Program is the key program document on cooperation between Ukraine and NATO. It is developed for the implementation of a new stage of cooperation between Ukraine and NATO in compliance with the decisions approved during the meetings of the NATO-Ukraine Commission in Bucharest and Brussels in 2008, as well as for the creation of conditions for the fulfillment of the priority tasks in Ukraine-NATO relations.

“The fulfillment of Ukraine’s Annual National Cooperation Programs with NATO contributes to the implementation of state reforms in the spheres of security, defense, economy, the law, and other spheres,” the president’s press service said.

The first annual national program was approved by a presidential decree in 2009.
