The systemic reform of the justice system, in particular the criminal justice system, which is being carried out in Ukraine, is to bring the country closer to modern European standards, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
"We’re doing this within the framework of European integration, but we’re doing it for ourselves. We’re well aware that the standards have to be changed," the Ukrainian president said in an interview with the Euronews TV channel, the presidential press service reported on Monday.
Other topics discussed during the interview included the European integration of Ukraine and the criminal case against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, the press service said.
