You're reading: Yanukovych to visit Dushanbe to attend CIS heads of state meeting

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will visit Dushanbe, Tajikistan, in early September to attend the next meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council.

"On September 2-3, 2011, Dushanbe will host a regular meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council, which will be preceded by a meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers. The Ukrainian delegation will be led by President Viktor Yanukovych at the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov said at a briefing on Tuesday.

He said that the agenda of the meeting included 11 points – in particular, a report on the results of the CIS’s activities over the last 20 years, an action plan on the implementation of the CIS development strategy, as well as a program of cooperation on combating illegal migration from 2012 to 2014.

"Ukraine intends to sign most of the documents submitted for consideration and support a number of protocol decisions," Dykusarov said.

As for the meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers, the Ukrainian delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko. The agenda of the meeting includes 16 questions.

During the visit, Yanukovych and Hryschenko will also hold a number of meetings with officials from CIS states.
