You're reading: Yanukovych: Ukraine improving Constitution so to have law in line with contemporary needs of social development

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has sent his greetings to Ukrainians on the occasion of the Constitution Day.

"Fifteen years ago the parliament adopted the Constitution of Ukraine. The foundation for Ukraine’s development as sovereign, democratic, social country and the country, which observes the principle of law, was laid. Now the Constitution is the main legal agreement of the Ukrainian nation," reads the greeting released by the press service of the Ukrainian president on Tuesday.

"We improve the Constitution of Ukraine so that it is in line with contemporary needs of social development and takes into account the political experience of our state. That’s why I supported an idea of the creation of the Constitutional Assembly," the head of state says.

"We’ll make another step to the approval of a principle of law, protection of human freedom and establishment of a new democratic political system of the European standard through the newest constitutional process. I’m sending my greeting to everyone on the occasion of the Constitution Day in Ukraine. I wish you prosperity and peace to our state and our nation!" Yanukovych said.
