Astana, Nov. 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine is preparing a number of important decisions to strengthen nuclear security, President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

The head of state said at a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Astana on Tuesday that these decisions were to be adopted in April 2011 at an international conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.

"Your [the UN secretary-general’s] participation in this summit will be important for Ukraine, because we are preparing to adopt a number of important decisions regarding the strengthening of nuclear safety and the nonproliferation of nuclear materials," Yanukovych said.

During the meeting, Ban Ki-moon confirmed his participation in the conference. Yanukovych, in turn, thanked him for his support for the Chornobyl conference and for the attention the UN attaches to cooperation with Ukraine.

This is a third meeting between the Ukrainian president and the UN secretary-general this year. They earlier met at a nuclear security summit in Washington and at a session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
