You're reading: Yanukovych’s press conference postponed, President calls meeting with lawmakers

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has invited the leadership of the parliament and parliamentary factions for a meeting to discuss the situation in the Verkhovna Rada due to the events at the parliamentary sitting this morning, the president's press secretary, Darya Chepak, told Interfax-Ukraine.

“The president called the leadership of the parliament and faction for 1130,” she said.

“In connection with this, the president’s press conference was
postponed until a later time. The time and the date will be announced
later,” Chepak said.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn and Verkhovna Rada Deputy Chairman Mykola Tomenko resigned this morning.

About 1,000 protesters clashed with equal numbers of riot police near Ukrainian House the president’s press conference was to be held.
