Yatseniuk: The split in society will widen in the current situation

Front for Change Party leader Arseniy Yatseniuk has called on Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych not to table in parliament for ratification an agreement extending the lease on the Russian naval base in Crimea. "I'm calling on [President] Viktor Yanukovych to assess the strategic consequences of the signed agreements once again. Mr. President, don't submit this shameful agreement for ratification by parliament!" the party's press service cited his address regarding the agreements signed by the Ukrainian and Russian presidents in Kharkiv on April 21.

Yatseniuk said that "the split in society will widen" in the current situation.

If it was forced to leave the split would be there and now it will be allowed to stay and the split will be there.

The split will always be there as long as people look to history instead of the future as one history does not fit the modern day geography of Ukraine.

yes History needs to be taken into account.

There is a saying to go somewhere you need to know where you have been.

Unfortunately for Ukraine much of the knowledge of where it has been is hidden.. secrets upon secrets.

The people responsable are mainly still in charge.. thy dont want you to know the truth because of what they have done.

So while its is good that we move on.. how do you learn from history when you do not know the real truth only the lies that have been fabricated to protect the guilty?

I prefer seeing the base closed, but to be honest, I don't think they'd go anyway and who would or could force them to leave?

Exactly, no one would be able/willing to force the Russians out, so might as well give permission to stay in exchange for good financial terms...

Chapter XV 14 of Ukraine's Constitution requires Ukraine's Parliament to ratification any agreement pertaining to existing military bases in Ukraine. If Ukraine wants they could try and alter the terms and conditions of the lease agreement but this could come at a price that Ukraine can not afford.

XV (14)

"The use of existing military bases on the territory of Ukraine for the temporary stationing of foreign military formations is possible on the terms of lease, by the procedure determined by the international treaties of Ukraine ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine"

Like anyone is going to listen to him....Western Ukraine is very anti-semetic anyway hence his drop in popularity in the polls to almost 0% after they found out he was Jewish
