The leader of the Batkivschyna faction in parliament, Arseniy Yatseniuk, has said he is confident that former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko will win the presidential elections if she is able to participate in them.

“We, as the Batkivschyna United Opposition, decided last year to nominate Tymoshenko as a candidate for the presidential elections. If she is able to participate in them, she will win them,” he said on the Freedom of Speech program on ICTV Channel late on Monday.

He said he was confident that the European Court of Human Rights would issue rulings by the end of this year that will acquit Tymoshenko and that she will be able to participate in the elections. If this does not happen, Yatseniuk promised that the newly elected democratic president would first issue a decree releasing Tymoshenko from prison.

“The first decree of the new democratic president will be the release of Yulia Tymoshenko, and the second decree will order the Prosecutor General’s Office to investigate her illegal political persecution,” he said.
