You're reading: Yatseniuk to strive for meeting with Tymoshenko

Leader of the Front for Change Party Arseniy Yatseniuk is to demand permission to meet with former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko from the head of the Kachanivska Penal Colony, where Tymoshenko is serving her seven-year sentence.

"I’m going to see the head of the colony to demand, first of all, to allow me a meeting, and, secondly, to let me in the cell, as this is envisaged by the law," he told reporters near the entrance of the colony on April 18.

Yatseniuk added that Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka did not permit him to meet with Tymoshenko, although earlier he issued such permissions to members of the European Parliament and representatives of various international organizations.

According to Yatseniuk, the prosecutor general transferred his request to Kharkiv regional prosecutor, who, in turn, sent it to Kharkiv regional department of the penitentiary service, which transferred the letter to Head of the Kachanivska Penal Colony Ivan Pervushkin.

"Thus, the prosecutor general decided to transfer his responsibility to the head of the colony," Yatseniuk said.

He did not say whether he would attend on April 19 the first court hearing of the criminal case on the activities of the United Energy Systems of Ukraine Corporation. According to Yatseniuk, he will discuss this with First Deputy Head of the Batkivschyna Party Oleksandr Turchynov.
