You're reading: Yuschenko against travel ban on Tymoshenko

Third Ukrainian President (2005-2010), Leader of the Our Ukraine Party Viktor Yuschenko has said that the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine should not have put a travel ban on Leader of the Batkivschyna Party Yulia Tymoshenko on opening investigations into the cases against her.

"I disapprove of the travel ban on Tymoshenko," he told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He said that "a person has to be free," and added that he and Ukrainian citizens do not understand such an attitude from the investigators.

Yuschenko said the courts should have the final say in the cases against Tymoshenko.

"Until the court forms its opinion, neither side has the right to comment," he said.

According to him, the Prosecutor General’s Office should pursue a democratic course while investigating the cases, and inform society about the investigation process.
