You're reading: Yushchenko meets with Barroso in Brussels ahead of EU-Ukraine summit

Third Ukrainian President and Our Ukraine Party leader Viktor Yuschenko met with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in Brussels on Feb. 22, reads a statement posted on the party's Web site on Saturday.

Yuschenko emphasized the importance of the European vector for Ukraine, saying a sign of this was the voting by the Verkhovna Rada for a resolution on support for the realization of Ukraine’s EU Integration aspirations and the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

He also expressed his gratitude for the EU’s consistent position reflecting the interests of 46 million Ukrainians who associate with European integration an increase in their living standards and the stability of their future.

In addition, Yuschenko thanked the European side for organizing the EU-Ukraine summit, which to be held in Brussels on February 25. He said he was confident that Ukraine would make every effort to meet the EU’s conditions ahead of the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius this November.
