You're reading: Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reports five killed in fighting in Karabakh conflict zone on Friday

BAKU - Five servicemen were killed and 19 suffered injuries in a clash between Armenian and Azerbaijani armies in the Karabakh conflict zone on Friday, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry press service said on Saturday.

Armenia’s use of large-caliber weapons, including 82mm mortars, started the clash. One Azerbaijani soldier was killed and three were lightly injured, the press service reported.

The Armenian side lost four soldiers and another 16 suffered injuries. Ten soldiers are in a serious condition, it said.According to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, the Armenian Armed Forces committed 74 violations of the truce along the contact line over the past day, including by use of 60mm and 82mm mortars and large-caliber machineguns.

Considering the situation, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces conducted 81 fire attacks on the hostile positions.

Armenia’s comment has yet to be made.
