Chisinau, December 17 (Interfax) - Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat has ordered that barbed wire on the Moldovan-Romanian border be removed.

"You must draft documents for the removal of barbed wire from the border with Romania by the end of this week. That is a shame to keep barbed wire on the border with a friendly country in the 21st century, when European borders are transparent and people move freely," Filat said.

He appointed Gen. Alexei Roibu, 53, former head of the department for the suppression of corruption and economic crimes as the chief of the Moldovan Border Service.

Filat made the order at a government meeting on Dec. 16.
