Moscow - Senior officials from the Russian Paralympic delegation have insisted on a meeting with representatives from the British security service in relation to an incident in which a bus carrying a Russian volleyball team was attacked, said Vladimir Lukin, President of the Russian Paralympic Committee.

“According to the British police, the bus window was hit by a stone, not a bullet. This is doubted by the Russian athletes and coaches. At the same time, we were told that the English authorities deeply apologize and they will make every effort to ensure the safety of the Russian delegation throughout the Games with due efficiency,” Lukin was quoted as saying on the Russian Paralympic Committee’s Web site.

The incident was investigated by the British police, Lukin said.

“This incident will by no means affect the combat spirit of the Russian team, which will continue to defend our country’s honor at the Paralympics,” he said.

A single shot was allegedly fired at the window of a bus carrying the Russian team as it approached the ExCel center, which is due to host a Russia-Morocco match on Tuesday.
