MINSK - The next meeting of the Council of the Heads of the CIS States, which was expected to be held in early November, will be held in Ashgabat on December 5, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev said after meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow on Tuesday.

“The Turkmen president has backed the proposal to hold the next
meeting of the Council of the Heads of the CIS States in Ashgabat on
December 5. A traditional meeting of the Council of the Foreign
Ministers of the CIS States will be held in Ashgabat on December 4,”
Lebedev was quoted as saying in a report posted on the CIS Executive
Committee Web site.

“Now we will be preparing for these forums together with all Turkmen
structures. I am deeply convinced that they will be fruitful,” he said.

Lebedev said the Executive Committee is in close contact with the
administrations of all CIS countries and is discussing preparations for
the upcoming forums.

“These working contacts have caused the CIS Executive Committee to
make a decision to work more thoroughly on the documents that will be
discussed at the upcoming forums, and therefore somewhat postpone them,”
Lebedev said.

“I am deeply convinced that this thorough preparation will enable us
to hold the upcoming forums at a better and higher level in terms of
organization and content,” Lebedev said.
