TALLINN - Estonian Defense Minister Sven Mikser has expressed an opinion that bad relations between NATO and Russia will last for long and called for looking beyond the current events at a meeting of the North Atlantic Council.

“It is of paramount importance to Estonia that NATO develops long-term planning, which will set long-term goals for both the Response Force and the alliance as a whole,” the Estonian Defense Ministry has quoted Mikser to Interfax as saying.

“Clearly, the aggressive policy of Russia is not a fleeting phenomenon,” the minister said, noting that NATO should look beyond the Warsaw summit scheduled for 2016.

He thanked the alliance for “acting energetically towards the aggressive neighbor threatening Estonia.” “Yet it is equally important to look forward so that these countermeasures develop into permanently operating and efficient structures,” the defense minister said.
