A new "spearhead" rapid reaction force comprising 4,000 troops deployable within 48 hours is to be the centrepiece of plans to bolster Nato's military flexibility in response to Russia's belligerence in Ukraine. The measure - designed to augment Nato's existing 14,000-man Response Force - is intended to make the alliance "fitter, faster and more flexible", according to its architects.
