Moscow - A first group of modern Su-27SM and Su-30 fighters entered service with a recently established fighter regiment in Crimea on Wednesday, Nov. 26.

“The first 14 planes were welcomed in a ceremony at the Belbek airfield today,” the Southern Military District said in a statement shared with Interfax on Wednesday, Nov. 26.

The fighters flew to the Belbek airfield “from military airfields in the Krasnodar territory,” it said.

The General Staff of the Russian armed forces told Interfax-AVN earlier that an air force division was being formed within the Air Force and Air Defense Forces Fourth Command in the Southern Military District, with a number of its units to be deployed in Crimea.

“The 27th mixed airforce division is being formed now, whose headquarters will be at Belbek,” it said.
