You're reading: France transfers over 1 billion euro to Russia after refusing to deliver Mistral ships

All financial issues concerning the Mistral helicopter-carriers, which France refused to deliver to Russia, have now been settled in full, a military-diplomatic source told Interfax-AVN on Aug. 25.

“The money has been transferred to the Russian side in full. It is more than one billion euro,” he said.

This amount includes both the advance payments made to fund the construction of the helicopter carriers and the cost of training the crews for these ships and installing Russian equipment on them, he noted.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Francois Hollande earlier adopted a joint decision to terminate the contract on the construction and delivery of two Mistral-class helicopter carriers, which was signed in June 2011.
