Moscow - South Stream d.o.o. has signed a contract with Gazprom subsidiary Tsentrgaz to build the section of the South Stream gas pipeline that will cross Serbia.

Tsentrgaz was selected as the result of a tender.

Local companies will act as subcontracts, Gazprom said in a statement.

Companies from Russia and Serbia were among the four bidders at the tender, which began in March.

Gazprom owns 51 percent and Srbijagas owns 49 percent of South Stream d.o.o.

Serbia’s parliament has assigned special status to South Stream. A final investment decision for the Serbian section was reached in November 2012.
