TBILISI - David Bakradze, Georgia's state minister of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, told reporters on Wednesday Tbilisi demands that the UN Security Council convene to discuss the treaty on alliance and strategic partnership signed by Russia and Abkhazia.

After meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland, Bakradze said one of the main issues addressed there was the situation with the Russian-Abkhaz treaty. He said U.S. support on this issue is important to Georgia. The minister also said no decision has yet been made to convene the UN Security Council

The Georgian Foreign Ministry earlier regarded the treaty as “a step in the direction of the annexation of the region.” The ministry also said Georgia will demand the convocation of the UN Security Council.
