You're reading: Georgia, Pakistan may supply Russia with products other than fruit

MOSCOW - Georgia and Pakistan, which are major fruit suppliers to Russia, may expand their exports concerning meat, where before it was only lamb, and also other foods. 

According the Russian agricultural watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, the prospects for an expansion of supplies were discussed at a meeting between Rosselkhoznadzor chief Sergei Dankvert, the head of Georgia’s National Food Agency, Zurab Chekurashvili and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Zaheer Aslam Janjua.

Chekurashvili said that Georgia is ready to substantially increase exports to Russia of citrus fruits, peaches, apples, pears, quinces and even begin supplies of livestock – of lamb meat and live sheep. There are prospects for the export of trout and honey.

Georgia was interested in the import of Russian seeds and genetic material for livestock breeding.

At the meeting with the Pakistani ambassador, it was announced that at present, there was an open opportunity for the expansion of deliveries of not only traditional citrus fruits and potatoes to Russia, but also new products, primarily dairy and meat products.

According to the statement, concerning possible export volumes of lamb, Pakistan may surpass deliveries from Australia. Large supplies of beef are also possible.

At the meeting an understanding was reached on the exchange of technical information necessary for the provision of security in the supply of food products. It is planned to do this as soon as possible. The ambassador said that Pakistani food producers are ready the completely comply with all necessary requirements of the legislation of Russia and the Customs Union.
