Moscow - The International Committee of the Red Cross is not participating in Russia's next humanitarian aid convoy for the population of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, Victoria Zotikova, a spokesperson for the ICRC's Moscow regional delegation, told on Oct. 28.

“We are aware of this convoy. There are intentions to extend humanitarian aid. And we welcome any aid sent by any side to Donbas, where people have found themselves in a dire situation and urgently need such help. However, the ICRC is in no way participating in the organization of this humanitarian convoy,” Zotikova said.

Russia’s fourth convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian supplies to the cities of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine is expected to depart on Tuesday, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said in a press release earlier.

The ICRC is gradually resuming its operations in the region after one of its employees was killed in Donetsk, Zotikova said.

“We have started to extend assistance to residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions by providing them with different items, including construction materials to repair their homes ahead of winter. We are considering other kinds of assistance as well,” she said.
