Bishkek, April 17 - The Kyrgyz authorities plan to seek the extradition of all officials from the inner circle of Kyrgyzstan's former President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, including Secretariat head Oksana Malevannaya.
Extradition requests have already been forwarded to Georgia and Ukraine.
"We plan to seek the extradition of people from the inner circle of the republic’s former President Bakiyev. Requests for the extradition of the chief of the Secretariat of the head of the republic, Oksana Malevannaya, have been sent to Georgia and Ukraine," Kyrgyz Prosecutor General Aida Salyanova said on Monday.
Malevannaya, who arrived in Ukraine together with her young son presumably from Kazakhstan, attempted to receive political asylum on Ukrainian territory at the end of March. However, she was denied entry into Ukraine and had to leave for Georgia.
Malevannaya, who was a defendant in the trial over the April 2010 events, was put on the international wanted list after she left Kyrgyzstan in early 2011.
The 1992 Minsk Convention on the extradition of wanted persons has not been applied in full, Salyanova said.
"A solution to the issue of the extradition of former Kyrgyz high-ranking officials requires political will," she said.
"The requests forwarded by us to other countries demanding the extradition of all of the people involved in the tragedies of April and June 2010 in one way or another have not been granted. These states have been citing allegedly political motives behind their prosecution," Salyanova said.
Ar-Namys (Dignity) parliamentary faction leader Felix Kulov, for his part, said that "there is also the Convention against Corruption, which can also be used to seek the extradition of all of Kyrgyzstan’s fugitive officials."
