You're reading: Medvedev, Lukashenko discuss Customs Union by phone

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko held talks by telephone on Friday, the Kremlin press service has reported.

"The presidents have discussed practical aspects of integration in the Eurasian space ahead of a meeting of the Customs Union’s Supreme Body at the level of prime ministers in St. Petersburg on October 19, and the summits of the Customs Union and the Eurasian Economic Community in Moscow in December," it said.

The Belarusian presidential press service has confirmed that the talks on these issues have been held.

But it also said that, "the presidents discussed preparations for the signing and ratification of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Commission, individual parameters of its functioning and other aspects of the launch from January 1, 2012, of the Common Economic Space of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia."
