Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Russia and Ukraine will have to make rigorous decisions in conditions of the global financial crisis.

“No simple economic future is ahead of us. We will have to make
decisions, sometimes rigorous and extraordinary, in order to maintain
our economies,” Medvedev told Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in
Kyiv on Wednesday.

Decisions of this kind should better be made “with our approaches harmonized,” not unilaterally, he said.

Yanukovych confirmed the importance of coordinated moves. “In the
current uneasy global situation and amid the continuing economic crisis,
your opinion is extremely important, just as the opportunity to
coordinate our efforts and minimize problems that may arise in our
economies,” he said.

“As strategic partners we must consider joint decisions to integrate
our economies. Economic growth and budget revenues will depend on
coordination,” Yanukovych said.
