The Russian Foreign Ministry has rejected Lithuania's claims to a compensation for the damage caused by "the Soviet occupation."

“We repeatedly explained that there are no grounds for claiming compensation payment from the Russian Federation. For us this matter is closed once and for all,” the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Wednesday.

Earlier Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius announced his intention to put the “Soviet occupation” compensation issue on the agenda of the European Union-Russia relationship.

“We deeply regret that the current Lithuanian authorities continue to initiate unfriendly campaigns against us on the ideological basis. This certainly affects the atmosphere of the Russian-Lithuanian relationship and the progress of our practical cooperation. We are convinced that our European partners will not agree to follow Vilnius’ scheme to bring destructive elements into the EU-Russia dialogue,” Lukashevich said.
