You're reading: Moscow protesters arrested trying to reach Kremlin

Riot police in Moscow have started arresting protesters who were trying to reach the Kremlin in a demonstration on the eve of Vladimir Putin's inauguration as president.

A march by about 20,000 people to an island adjacent to the Kremlin proceeded peacefully Sunday afternoon until a small group tried to break off and cross a bridge across the Moscow River, which was blocked by police.

As more people crowded toward the bridge, police sent reinforcements to the cordon. After about an hour of confrontation, police began seizing demonstrators and dragging them to police vehicles.
