Moscow hopes that all of the Russian citizens detained in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, for attending unauthorized opposition rallies will be released from custody soon.

"We expect the Belarusian side to agree to release all of the citizens of the Russian Federation from custody as soon as possible," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

"The Russian citizens have not complained about the conditions at the pre-trial detention centers where they are being held," the ministry said.

On Thursday, employees of the Russian diplomatic mission met with the detained Russians and provided them with all of the necessary legal assistance, the ministry said.

"Russian diplomats gave the detained people earlier drafted petitions requesting their release on parole. The embassy has also paid the state duty," it said.

"The Foreign Ministry of Russia continues taking measures to sort out the situation surrounding the detention of Russian citizens in Belarus," it said.
