TBILISI - NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has thanked Georgia for its contribution to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) for Afghanistan and its decision to double the number of its troops deployed in that country.

"We welcome the remarkable contribution your country is making to the ISAF operation, notably the battalion in Helmand. We also appreciate your decision to almost double your contribution," Rasmussen said at a meeting of the NATO-Georgia commission in Brussels.

Georgian National Security Council Secretary Giorgi Bokeria told journalists on Thursday that the meeting passed in a constructive atmosphere, and the parties discussed challenges to security in the region, Georgia’s participation in the mission in Afghanistan and cyber security issues.

Georgian Permanent Envoy to NATO Grigol Mgaloblishvili noted that the parties adopted "a very important document" on broadening cooperation with the alliance based on the meeting results. He did not provide details of the agreement.
