Every year, as the anniversary of the 2004 terrorist attack on a Russian school in Beslan nears, photographers descend on the small town to document the lingering effects of the hostage crisis in which 331 people - 186 of them students - were killed. The surviving children, many of whom were injured, are usually photographed looking somber, often inside the school’s ruins.
