MOSCOW - Almost 260 people have been detained in Moscow for participation in various unauthorized actions, a source with law enforcement agencies told Interfax.

"Three attempts to stage unsanctioned actions were thwarted in Moscow yesterday. A total of 258 people were destined," the source said.

In particular, 100 people gathered on Revolution Square on Sunday afternoon, 24 of them were detained.

Administrative charges for taking part in an unauthorized rally were brought against 15 of them.

Some 124 people were detained on Triumfalnaya square at about 6 p.m. Moscow time on Sunday.

Some 110 people were detained at an opposition action on Teatralnaya square. The same charges were brought against them.

In Moscow, some 2,300 policemen ensured public order on the voting day.

As to St. Petersburg, 65 activists were detained at an unsanctioned rally organized by the Other Russia movement.

Administrative charges of violating the rules of staging mass actions and disobedience of lawful orders of police officers were brought against them.
