Up to 2,000 citizens of CIS member states are banned from entering Russia for three years every day, director of the Russian Federal Migration Service (FMS) Konstantin Romodanovsky told reporters in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek on Monday.

“If a [foreign] citizen arrives [in Russia] and fails to register with FMS within the next 120 days, he will be banned from entering [Russia] for three years. Such restrictions have already been imposed on 260,000 people. It means that 2,000 people become subject to this ban daily,” he said.

Romodanovsky is in Bishkek as a member of Russia’s official delegation led by State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin.

All people entering Russia are required to have a legal visa and a legal work permit, he said.

“My personal opinion is that the number of immigrants who overstay their visas is a far greater problem than the number of people who come to our country,” he said.
