YEREVAN – The Armenian police have detained a 22-year-old citizen of the republic on the charges of physical violence against a representative of the law enforcement authorities.

A source in the press service of the Armenian Investigative Committee told Interfax that citizen A. Akopian twice hit a police officer with his fist late on June 28 night, during a rally against the rise of electricity charges on Freedom Square in the center of Yerevan.

A criminal case was opened under the article ‘use of violence against a person in authority’. Akopian was apprehended.
