MOSCOW (AP) — A Russian judge has found three members of the provocative punk band Pussy Riot guilty of hooliganism, in one of the most closely watched cases in recent Russian history.
The judge on Friday said the three band members committed hooliganism driven by religious hatred and offending religious believers.
The three were arrested in March after a guerrilla performance in Moscow's main cathedral calling for the Virgin Mary to protect Russia against Vladimir Putin.
They face a maximum seven years in prison. The sentence is to be pronounced later Friday.

When Jesus arrived in Jerusalem to continue in the teaching work, the pharisees determined that he was an activist a heretic and was committing acts of sedition. Hand in hand with the reigning government, the religious leaders of the time encouraged the Romans to arrest and execute the son of God. Both the government and the "church" viewed Jesus as disruptive to their agenda. Today the "church" and the government view activism just as the Romans and Pharisees did. Nothing will come between Putin's russification of the CIS and nothing will separate the orthodox church from their 30 pieces of silver.
