MOSCOW - The jailed Pussy Riot punk group singers have urged supporters to refrain from acts of aggression and vandalism.

“Support should come in peaceful forms,” Pussy Riot singer Yekaterina Samutsevich said, according to Novaya Gazeta.

She said actions like cutting down crosses and desecrating churches
in different parts of Russia have not been devised by Pussy Riot
supporters.

“We have never issued calls to behave like that and we will never do so,” Samutsevich said.

Another Pussy Riot singer Maria Alyokhina said “churches are part of our architectural and historical heritage.”

“No graffiti should be put on churches. There are many other places
where words of support for us could be spoken. Our protest is a
political one. We are not enemies of the Church. This must be
understood,” she said.
