Moscow - The new defense lawyer for the two convicted girls from the Pussy Riot punk band is planning to appeal their verdicts in the Moscow City Court's Presidium by the end of the year.

“I am currently preparing complaints on behalf of the Pussy Riot defendants, which I am planning to file with an oversight body – the Moscow City Court’s Presidium – in December-January,” lawyer Irina Khrunova told Interfax.

The complaints refer to a cassation court ruling upholding the legality of the verdicts handed down to Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and changing the verdict against the third Pussy Riot defendant, Yelena Samutsevich.

Simultaneously, Khrunova is preparing complaints for the European Court of Human Rights.

The complaints dispute the legality of keeping the girls in custody ahead of and during the trial as well as the legality of the verdict delivered by Moscow’s Khamovnichesky Court.
