Moscow - Investigators hope to end the questioning of Ukrainian citizen Hanna Durytska, the key witness in the Boris Nemtsov murder case, next week, Duritskaya's defense lawyer said.

“Investigators pledged to end the questioning before March 4,” Vadim Prokhorov told Interfax on Sunday.

“But she is a free person, while her freedom is being curbed in violation of the law,” he said, adding that he deems Duritskaya’s detention illegal and will act accordingly.

“She said she would report for questioning voluntarily,” Prokhorov said.

Investigative actions were again conducted with Durytska’s participation on March 1 evening, “including with experts and by telephone,” Prokhorov said.

The team of investigators probing the murder of Boris Nemtsov is led by investigator Krasnov, “who conducted the criminal inquiries into the murders of [human rights lawyer] Stanislav Markelov, [journalist Anastasia] Baburova and Anatoly Chubais. I cannot provide any further comments here,” Prokhorov said.

Nemtsov was shot and killed at about 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 27 as he was walking with Hanna Durytska along the Greater Moskvoretsky Bridge. Several lines of inquiry are being pursued, including political and personal.
