MOSCOW — Russian news reports say a military ammunition dump is on fire in the country's south, setting off explosions that have injured one serviceman and sent metal fragments up to four kilometers (2.5 miles) away.

The fire broke out Monday afternoon in the armory near the village of Koltunbanovsky in the Orenburg region 1200 kilometers (725 miles) southeast of Moscow.

The state news agency RIA-Novosti cited the Defense Ministry as saying one serviceman had been injured. It also cited regional emergency officials as saying a children’s camp and a rehabilitation center in the armory area had been evacuated.
