ALMATY, Kazakhstan — Media in Kazakhstan are reporting that the charred remains of at least 13 people have been found after a fire at a border post in the southeast of the Central Asian country.

The Novosti-Kazakhstan news agency cited deputy frontier service director Turganbek Stambekov as saying that 15 military personnel regularly serve at the remote outpost near the border with China.

Stambekov says authorities are carrying out an investigation of what happened.

No official explanation has been given for the cause of the fire.
