Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksey Meshkov in the course of his working visit to Cyprus held a meeting with Foreign Minister of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides, where the parties discussed bilateral relations and the settlement of the Cyprus problem, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affaires said.

“We discussed possible ways for development of our commercial and economic ties, better co-operation between us in such areas as agriculture, commerce and tourism, education, etc. We emphasized fruitful interaction between our countries in various international organizations,” the report available on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s official website said.

The ministry said that the discussion with Kasoulides of the international agenda issues “demonstrated again how close our approaches to key regional and European problems are.”

“Russia and Cyprus will continue joint efforts for more security and stability in Europe, and assistance in normalization of the situation in the Middle East,” the report said.

The ministry said: “The Cypriot side had expressed appreciation of Russia’s consistent and well-reasoned position on the settlement of the Cyprus problem.”

“Russia has expressed support of the ongoing process of inter-community talks, and search for possible decisions in accordance with UN Security Council Resolutions on Cyprus, with impartial assistance by the international community, but with no dictate from beyond,” the Russian ministry said.
