Moscow - Russia dramatically reduced imports of products that are under the food embargo in August compared with July.

The food embargo was imposed on Aug. 7, 2014.

According to the Federal Customs Service (FCS), vegetable, dairy, poultry and pork supplies declined the most dramatically. So, in August the cost of imports of vegetables amounted to $35.3 million, which is 73.2 percent less that in July. Dairy imports amounted $80.5 million, which is 56.1 percent less than in July.

Poultry meat imports fell by 45.6 percent to $33 million and pork imports fell 44.2 percent to $115 million. At the same time, beef supplies rose by 9.6 percent to $257.3 million.

The FCS also said that in comparison with August of last year, vegetable supplies fell by 44 percent, dairy products – 57.2 percent, poultry meat – 38.9 percent and pork – 44.6 percent. Beef imports rose by 46.9 percent.

In all, Russia imported food goods and raw materials for their production at almost $2.5 billion in August, which is 13.1 percent less than in July of this year. In comparison with August 2013, supplies declined 7.5 percent.
