You're reading: Russia, Germany have ‘confidence crisis’ over Ukraine

The relations between Germany and Russia are experiencing a "huge confidence crisis" over the events in Ukraine, German Ambassador to Russia Rudiger von Fritsch said.

The ambassador said at an event held in the German embassy in Moscow on Oct. 2 marking the Day of German Unity that joint agreements and rules were violated during the Ukrainian crisis.

At the same time, Rudiger von Fritsch reiterated that “there is no alternative” to good relations between Germany and Russia as both countries have deep historical and cultural relations.

“Germany is an important trade partner of Russia,” the ambassador said, adding that German investment in Russia helped create 125,000 jobs.

Rudiger von Fritsch reiterated the need to restore confidence in cooperation between Germany and Russia. He said he intends to personally promote that, adding that his family has roots in Russia.
