You're reading: Russia to consult defense partners over data for UN Register of Conventional Arms

Moscow - Russia will seek agreement of its foreign partners in defense-industrial cooperation before passing their information to the United Nations Register of Conventional Arms, and exchange information about arms exports and imports with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) states.

The relevant changes to the Regulation on the transfer of information by the Russian Federation to the UN Register of Conventional Arms were made by a Russian government decree posted on the official legal news portal.

Under the new version of Clause 7 of this Regulation, the Russian Foreign Ministry “will agree, via diplomatic channels, with the states importing Russian weapons, and the states exporting weapons to Russia, upon the transfer of information concerning these states to the UN Register of Conventional Arms.”

Also, under the new version of the Regulation, the Russian Foreign Ministry will exchange this information with the OSCE states as part of an OSCE forum on security cooperation.
