Riga - Latvia would deny an entry visa to Russian actor Mikhail Porechenkov if he applied for one after he publicly showed support for the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, according to the Latvian foreign minister.

Edgars Rinkevics said on Twitter that Porechenkov “is not being waited for in Latvia,” and that the Baltic country would pursue a consistent policy against violators of international law.

The minister’s tweet was a comment on a scandal that broke out after a video was posted on the Internet that showed Porechenkov wearing a helmet with a “PRESS” inscription on it and firing a machinegun.

The video was condemned by the journalists’ unions of Russia and Moscow. Porechenkov responded that the machinegun fire had been a salute and that no message had been intended behind his wearing a PRESS helmet.

Earlier, Rinkevics had declared Russian actor Ivan Okhlobystin and Russian pop singers Iosif Kobzon, Oleg Gazmanov and Valeria persona non grata for their support for Russia’s policy on Ukraine.
