You're reading: Russian Security Council meeting chaired by Putin addresses situation in Ukraine, fight against ISIL terrorists, fight against Ebola virus

Moscow - Russian President Vladimir Putin has discussed with permanent members of the Russian Security Council the implementation of the peace plan for south-eastern Ukraine and interaction with partners in the fight against the Islamic State on the basis of international law.

“Vladimir Putin has chaired an operative meeting with permanent members of the Security Council. The meeting addressed the implementation of the peace plan for eastern Ukraine including the fulfillment of the items of the ‘Putin plan,'” Russian presidential press officer Dmitriy Peskov said.

The meeting also addressed issues relating to the fight against the Islamic State and the expansion of Russia’s involvement in the international fight against the Ebola virus.

“The permanent members of the Security Council also exchanged opinions on the possible forms of interaction with other partners on the fight against ISIL [Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant] within the framework of international law. The meeting also addressed Russia’s participation in the international efforts against the Ebola virus,” Peskov said.

The meeting was attended by Russian Prime Minister Dmitriy Medvedev, presidential administration chief Sergey Ivanov, federal Security Service Secretary Nikolay Patrushev, permanent Security Council member Boris Gryzlov, Deputy Security Council Secretary Rashyd Nurgaliyev, Foreign Intelligence Service Director Mikhail Fradkov, Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, and State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin.
